Meditations

“Meditations,” aimed to create a space that would simulate the sense of openness in the mind generally associated with meditation, yoga, and minimalist theories on lifestyle. As I worked through this series, my practice in meditation had also begun to deepen and I began to develop an obsession with the space that was forming in my mind. Having a heavy dance background, I already had an established understanding of how the body physically exists and moves through space, but the vastness of the mind drew my attention.

What is the space like in our minds? What do our spaces feel like? How does a space feel when an object is placed in it? What about with the lack of an object? How does the experience of the space differ from person to person?

Questions like these are began to define the way in which I approached my work. Specifically to the fact that there are relationships and interactions between the largest and the smallest points in any given room or environment. This notion sparked a lot of curiosity in me and was the driving force for my experiments with manipulating materials that have less of a permanent form. Materials like light, vapor, spaces between objects, unfired clay and my own body.
